Thank you for coming to our site. We are currently running the site in Beta mode so we can collect your feedback and enhance the site with all the features that YOU want before we officially launch. We're taking a page out of Google's book in this respect, but our philosophy is to deliver functionality rapidy and get it in the hands of the people that count (that's you) to help us make this a site that you want to frequent.
Our goal with this site is simple: Offer an entirely free, easy to use, community based site for sharing points of interest (POIs) that can be easily downloaded to your GPS units. Many sites available today offer similar services, but they lack in relevancy to what you/we all are looking for. For example, you could do a search for "McDonalds in Seattle" on some other sites and you might get a listing for hotels in Virginia. Is this relevant? I think not. Our aim is to make the search results as relevant to what you are truly looking for in the areas you are looking for them in. To achieve this we rely on the community to tell us what is relevant by making the site as open as possible.
Open concept (like a wiki for POIs) means the following:
- Anyone can add, edit, delete any POI
- Full read access to all information on the site for anonymous users
- You can rate and add reviews for any point of interest
- Anybody can add or edit categories of POIs. If we haven't thought of the category yet, feel free to add it. If you feel that an existing category needs new fields, you can edit it and add them too
- You can subscribe to specific POIs so you will receive an email when it has been changed
- A forum for the community to interact with each other and the Gointu team
- The site will become what you, the user, wants it to be. If you want it to contain a whole bunch of POIs for where you kissed your girlfriend(s) ... you can do that. I don't know why you'd want to, but hey this isn't about what I want ... it's about you ... the Gointu Community! If you create a new POI category, it's very likely that others will join you and add POIs to your category
